| Living with Sensory Integration Dysfunction (DSI)
We’ve all admired the talents of superior athletes, Olympians who break
world records, and athletes who set new standards in their own sports. Many
of these athletes have the advantage of superior sensory integration – their
brain’s ability to acutely process information received through the senses
enables them to excel beyond the “average” runner, swimmer, skater, or other
athlete.
But what happens to the child who lacks the skill of sensory
integration?
Unfortunately, some children struggle with even the most basic skills on
a daily basis due to the fact that they cannot process information received
through the five senses - hearing, seeing, tasting, touching, and smelling -
as well as their sense of balance and muscle movement. They are forced to
learn to cope in a world that always seems to be moving around them.
Sometimes, this condition is further compounded by autism, ADD, ADHD, or
another neurodevelopmental disorder.
At Southpaw Enterprises, we’ve dedicated ourselves to offering and
developing the best available equipment, tools, and resources to help
children with sensory integration dysfunction (DSI) and similar disorders
learn to live in this fast-paced world. Our focus is on providing
occupational therapists and other health care professionals, schools, and
parents with what they need to make a child’s life better. |
